The Glamfolk is a group of Viking Age reenactors based around the Puget Sound in Washington state (U.S.A.) that was founded over 20 years ago. The Glamfolk’s mission is to support and encourage the study and recreation of Viking Age life and that of the many cultures encountered by the norse during that time through displays and demonstrations of authentic crafts, skills, equipment, and encampments.
Originally, the Glamfolk was founded as a ‘household’ within the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) by a group of like-minded viking age reenactors who wanted to challenge and assist each other in making their household, personas, and encampment more authentic in it’s historical re-creation than they had found in other households within the SCA at the time.
Soon the group’s reputation for authenticity grew outside the SCA, and the Glamfolk was invited to set up camp and teach at numerous events. Our organization has worked with a number of organizations including Pacific Lutheran University‘s Scandinavian Area Studies Department, the city of Poulsbo’s (WA) annual ‘Viking Fest‘ and ‘Midsummer Fest’, the ‘Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games‘ in Enumclaw, Washington, and various demos and classes for the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle, Washington. Additionally, the Glamfolk was also featured on The History Channel‘s show “The Big Build” in which a replica Viking longboat and sale were built utilizing period tools and methods available to people during the Viking Age.
In 2011, the membership of the Glamfolk banded together to establish “Glamfolk Inc.” a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in order to expand the group’s ability to participate in more public events and providing more opportunities to teach and share about the Viking Age with others.
To this day, the Glamfolk continues to further its mission by teaching at numerous different cultural and historical events throughout the year. Be sure to watch our website for information and updates on upcoming events!
